These mini DIY Christmas list ornaments are easy to make and add such a festive look to the Christmas tree!
I feel like this year’s Christmas is all about cute miniature decor. Our Christmas village keeps growing, and I love all the little pieces. I have a few other miniature Christmas projects I’m in the middle of that I can’t wait to share, too.
These miniature Christmas list ornaments were a fun easy DIY.
I found these little plain wooden spools and knew I needed to do something with them. Like turn them into these cute Christmas wish list ornaments:

You may recall we turned a (life-sized) spool into a towel rack in our bathroom earlier this year, so apparently spools are also starting to become a theme around here.
My friend Krista from The Happy Housie got a bunch of us bloggers together today to share all sorts of DIY ornaments so be sure to scroll down to the end of this post and hop around for more Christmas ornament inspiration.
Here’s the easy tutorial for these ornaments:
Supply list for DIY Christmas list ornaments:
- Mini wooden spools
- Red and green spray paint (I used Rust-Oleum)
- Drop cloth
- Fine black permanent marker (I used Sharpie)
- Scissors
- Rubber cement
- Baker’s twine (colors of your choice – I used red/white and green/white. This red/green/white option is fun, too.)
How to make DIY Christmas list ornaments:
1. Paint the spools.
I found it easiest to spray one side at a side so you don’t end up with paint everywhere. Remember to spray the sides, too.
2. Cut your paper into strips.
Line up a piece of plain white paper next to the spool and mark the width. Cut strips of paper that fit perfectly around the inside of your spool.
3. Cut the strips to the right length.
Wrap the strip of paper around the spool about one and a half times, cut it.
4. Write your wish list.
Starting at the bottom of the strip of paper, write your holiday wish list.
5. Glue the wish list paper to the spool.
I did it both ways, and I’d say the easiest trick to this is brushing the rubber cement on the back of the paper instead of around the spool.
Hold the paper onto the spool for about 30 seconds so the rubber cement starts to dry before you let go.
6. Thread some twine through the spool, cut and tie the ends of the twine together.
Then hang up on your tree and enjoy! These would be fun to make with little kids each year, too and see how their lists change over time.
And I just love that red truck with the Christmas tree. (It’s from At Home, I don’t see it online though or I’d link to it.)
I can’t stop buying them, we have red trucks with trees in every room!

The spool ornaments are adorable! I just happen to have some spools on hand and you can be sure I’m making some of these. I always add ornaments to my gifts – tied to the regular bow. Thanks for sharing such a cute idea.
