I shared this post on Instagram yesterday, but I realize some of my blog/email readers don’t follow me over there, so I wanted to share the same post in a quick blog post, too.
Black lives matter. 🖤
The events of this week have been heavy, and there’s been a lot of learning and listening for all of us to do. I’m often one to be quiet instead of saying something that might offend someone.
I also wanted to be respectful and not add to the noise this week when I feel so many others have a much more important message to share than I do.
But listening to Chelsea of @makinghomebase and other black designers/DIYers I admire encouraged me to speak up. I would never want my silence to be taken as I don’t care about this hugely important issue facing us all right now, because of course I do. Racism is flat out wrong.
I’m sharing some talented black designers/DIYers today (each link below goes right to their Instagram pages):
- @tinyhousecalls (AMAZING dollhouse DIYs!)
Give them a follow, learn from them and be inspired by them. 🖤
Lauren of @blesserhouse also shared a great point this week about the dolls our kids play with. What color skin do they have? Thinking about these details makes a difference. It all starts at home.
And check out @younghouselove’s IG Story highlight ‘Make Change’ for a long list of wonderful black businesses you can support.
Remember, we can all make a difference, no matter how small. Keep learning and listening. 🖤
